Shalimar King of Sweets & Restaurant on Oak Tree Road in Iselin serves up a full-service dining experience centered around South Asian cuisine that spans Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, and broader Asian traditions. This spot is well suited for anyone looking to explore a variety of halal dishes in a setting that's been recently refreshed to feel bright and welcoming. Locals returning regularly tend to appreciate both the familiar favorites and the buffet option, which offers a good introduction for those less acquainted with the flavors or who prefer sampling a wider spread.

The atmosphere is straightforward and inviting, making it a comfortable place for families, groups, or solo diners seeking hearty, authentic meals. Service here stands out — staff like Abdul and Adeel are noted for being attentive and knowledgeable, often helping guests navigate the menu with recommendations that land well. This kind of genuine attentiveness adds a relaxed, neighborly touch to the visit.

Those drawn to fragrant, richly spiced dishes will likely gravitate to items such as lamb chops, butter chicken, and various karahi-style preparations, all boasting robust seasoning and fresh ingredients. The buffet provides a chance to try a bit of everything—bread varieties and vegetable noodles even echo familiar comforts for some, like Filipino pancit, bridging culinary experiences across communities. For dessert and drinks, options like gulab jamun, falooda, and traditional lassis round out the meal with authentic flair and refreshing balance.

The restaurant tends to get busy, so some wait time is to be expected, especially during peak hours. It’s a good spot for lunch or dinner when you’re up for exploring flavors that are hearty without being overwhelmingly heavy, and the bright, clean interior helps keep the mood upbeat. Whether you’re a regular seeking consistent quality or a newcomer curious about South Asian barbecue and curries, Shalimar provides a straightforward, well-served meal that respects local tastes and hospitality.

We always have a great experience at Shalimar Restaurant! Our server Abdul is amazing — he’s always kind, attentive, and makes every visit special. Each time we come, he recommends the best dishes from the menu, and he never misses! Today he treated us to a new dessert planned for next month’s menu — the Toffee Cake — and it was honestly the best cake ever! Super flavorful, rich, and absolutely hit the spot. Highly recommend both the restaurant and Abdul’s service!

My family and I have been coming to Shalimar for many years and we love their food. We love their lamb chops, butter chicken and chicken kebab. Their service is also great, Adeel was our last server and he did amazing. They recently had a store makeover and it looks beautiful & bright!

We had such a great experience at Shalimar Restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and honestly some of the best I’ve had in a long time. The place was clean, welcoming, and the service was amazing. Amazing management team, my son was given a complimentary meal including a burger and fries. A special shoutout to Abdul Khan, he was incredibly kind, patient, and attentive the entire time. He made sure everything was perfect and checked in without being overbearing. Definitely will be coming back! Awesome renovation.

At tried the buffet even though I wasnt familiar with the food and i dont eat much spicy food. Everything I tried was great from the mango drink to at least half of the things from the buffet. I didnt try goat and a few other dishes. I really liked the bread and noodles with vegetables and chicken. That was the same as a filipino dish i like (pancit). I thought it was great you dont tip when you get the buffet.

The food was delicious—Paya Soup rich and comforting, Mutton Seekh Kebab juicy, and Mutton Pulao flavorful. Kashmiri Chai and Mint Mojito were refreshing. However, the waiting time was quite long. Overall, great taste, but be prepared to wait.

I truly enjoy the atmosphere here; it feels just like a fine dining experience. The food is delicious, well-cooked, and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spices. The portions are generously sized, enough to satisfy your appetite. The staff is incredibly friendly, and I want to especially mention Reem, who provided us with excellent service.

So I’ve been a LONG TIME customer of this restaurant since 2006 back when there used to be Shalimar Food Land next door. Since then, they’ve merged and become one. And just recently they really renovated the restaurant and dining room. The ambiance was very nice and the staff are generally nice. Very busy nights which is good. While the food was generally quite good such as the Gobi Manchurian, the goat korma, cheese kebab, and palak paneer could’ve been better. Again I used to come here a lot and prior to the renovation, they used to have a very good goat korma and chicken cheese kebab. The goat korma definitely became more “light” while the chicken cheese kebab tasted a bit dry. The palak paneer tasted a little old. I feel like while the restaurant in general is very nice and welcoming, the food quality has gone a bit down. Overall, the restaurant experience was nice, and while it was generally good to eat here with family and friends after many years, I feel like the food could definitely improve a bit. Again, it’s quite good, but I feel like some dishes like the goat korma, definitely used to be more rich in flavor back in the day. I still recommend eating here though since they also now have a buffet and all. Definitely will come here again sometime! :)
